Raymond served from October 1958 to February 1962 and began his basic training in Ft. Jackson S.C. Raymond completed advanced training as a combat engineer at Ft. Leornard Wood, Mo. He was assigned to the 94th Engineer Battalion (const) H & S Company (Supply S-4) in Nellingen Germany. He spent over two years in Germany with a four month extension because of the construction of the Berlin Wall.
